Day 1 Progress

So starting Cody's story with a prologue of the past. I don't know how it reads exactly but that's not the point of this all. Doing well so far and just hope I can maintain my momentum like I have in previous years.

Here's a short preview:

For thousands of years, since before recorded history, there has been art.  Men and women drawing on caves recording hunts and travels.  Then came the art of storytelling and history slowly started to be born.  With the creation of scripture mankind was able to record their stories and history for generations to learn from and grow.
As the centuries passed a certain group started to develop special abilities.  Abilities relating to the various arts that developed.  They used their rare gifts to inspire mankind to continue despite the darkness that surrounded them at all times.  They sang songs of great heroes accomplishing great deeds, painted great pictures of wondrous lands and places that existed just beyond the sun rise, and told stories of the grand things that had been seen by them.
These people became the inspiration for humanity to explore, challenge, and grow as a species.  Through the ages they used a special magic that only they could use to subtly manipulate the hearts and spirits of others to give them bravery, determination, and above all else: hope.
For thousands of years this small group of people used their abilities while sticking mainly to the background.  They learned from long ago that their purpose was to help humanity and grow along side of it but not to lead it.  Standing behind figures while rarely venturing into the limelight themselves was fine with them as they never needed to do much more than that.
Then a dark faction of humanity arose who wanted to rule it all with an iron fist.  They saw that as humanity continued to grow it would become more difficult for them to rule over them.  This started a new faction of people who wanted to stop the progress of mankind by eliminating the art that inspired them to do great things like standing up to an oppressive authority or to expand to their own lands to rule themselves.
From that point on the artists had to develop skills to protect themselves, creating martial arts and weapon making while the other side used poisons and assassinations to get into seats of power in order to drive out the artists.  As the ages passed both sides grew in power and legends of their battles became the stuff of legends until a great battle caused the artists to fall.
This period started the height of power for the dark faction who used the lack of hope and inspiration to create a dark age for them to rule humanity.  Without their power mankind lacked the will and ambition to raise up and change things which allowed the group to gain more and more power as the years passed.  For hundreds of years their power grew and humanity suffered in the darkness seemingly unable to rise up into the light again until a new golden age arose.
As the dark faction had been spreading its influence it had also grown stagnant and lazy with their own abilities.  This lead the artists to biding their time, strengthening their abilities and developing new ones in order to fight.  When the time was right they fought off their defilers with their new abilities forcing them back to the shadows to wait for another time to strike while the artists brought about a new golden age of man.
A renaissance was born and continued for hundreds of years among the world.  As the artists created more and inspired the rest of humanity to explore and grow their rivals did their best to stop them and drag humanity back to the dark age.  As the years passed both sides grew, the artists dubbed themselves the Order of the Muse declaring amongst themselves that their duty was to protect humanity against the dark order they dubbed The Silent and to help push humanity forward however they could.
By inspiring hope humanity sought to do great things.  Exploring the oceans, developing an understanding of human biology, and even creating their own great works of art were but a few of the things the Muses brought about.  While the works of the muses came and faded with the days, the great works they inspired lasted through the ages, inspiring others and making a mark in the lives of millions.
Tyranny and democracy, slavery and freedom, war and peace, this was the cycle the two factions went through.  While one side sought destruction and power the other brought creation and peace to pursue their own art and agendas.  As humanity advanced so did their art and as their art changed they grew more powerful to better their cause.  As their art evolved the darkness grew along side them; each one hoping to one day finally crush the other but while one side  would have just as gladly stayed out of sight the other  desired to drag them out into the open to stop them once and for all.
